Architecture Week 2012_TuÑon&MANSILLA
The Royal Collections Museum, Madrid
Emilio Tuñón
gave an interesting and pleasant conference about the new Royal Collections
Museum during Madrid’s Architecture Week. Obviously remembering his partner Luis
Moreno Mansilla, and giving some short references about the city’s history, the
river and the origin of the project, this building appears as a natural
solution for this iconic site, growing up like a inhabited landscape. We face
here a museum to be visited from top to down, culminated with a new access to ‘Campo
del Moro’ Gardens.
This is a
beautiful example of pure architecture. In every phase of the project
development, even during foundations time, it is possible to understand the
work character and intentions. Take a slow and deep look to the new created landscape:
Almudena’s Cathedral finally has a base linking it to the Royal Palace, the
square between both is finished and the present time becomes the link in a very
silent and coherent way. This could be the key of Tuñón & Mansilla work, and
this is the reason why works like this immediately become part of a city.

Differents windows with difference histories: in the same place, in the same moment, how many histories o how many social events happen? how everyone can see or feel or transmit differents things with the same things. How is our relation?
